Hey everyone. In the past couple of weeks, I proposed an overhaul of the OS moderation system as well as the moderation team.
Alongside the upcoming changes, I have created a moderation document to help standardize moderator activities and clearly establish their responsibilities as a part of the Online Sequencer staff.
By providing a standard procedure, we hope to handle our usual tasks as mods more efficiently—while allowing regular users to have a better chance of speaking up against mods that may be abusing their power.
The standardization guide currently covers moderator recruitment and guidelines to a couple of moderation powers. In the future, I will write an ethics guide that goes into detail with how moderators should procedurally respond to users that are misbehaving and provide tips towards refining their professional conduct in general. As this guide is being constantly updated, moderators will be expected to follow up on the ever-changing procedures.
Another common concern is that moderators in the past have been nominated due to their popularity/favoritism versus their actual ability to make worthwhile contributions to the site's community.
To counter this, I have also created a moderator application form in order to recruit fresh talent to our staff! If you are a longtime user of Online Sequencer that's always wanted to become a part of the moderation team—now is your chance to apply!
Before you fill out anything, please note that your account must be at least 2 years old, and that your account must have 300 sequences -OR- at least 1,000 views on one sequence. And yes, I will actually check if your account meets these requirements.
In addition, you are expected to commit a few of days of the week to moderate the main site (as opposed to simply moderating from Discord). This will encourage a more active moderation staff to be present on the chat at any given time and discourage moderators from abusing their power off-site.
I encourage you to fill out your application as thoughtfully and as seriously as you can. We are looking for users who can provide high quality statements and have the same passion towards Online Sequencer as we do.
Once enough applications have been received, I will write a follow-up forum post to help decide on recruiting new moderators to the team. If you have any questions about this entire process—please feel free to contact me on the site chat or send a DM to me on Discord (lucenttear).
Last but not least—as a result of these changes, several moderators have been now dismissed from their position.
Before this announcement, incurrent moderators were given a seven day period to fill out the same application just as a small hurdle to keep their positions. Any moderators that did not respond in this period or have acknowledged that they are unable to keep up with the new responsibilities were subsequently removed from the moderation team.
We honor these moderators for having served their time on the Online Sequencer team.
Thanks for reading this far, everyone. We are excited to roll out these new changes in the coming days. Happy sequencing!
Hello Online Sequencer! It's time to announce the 2023 June Monthly Contest!
For this month, each entry can only use 1 instrument! However, there is no limit to how much that instrument can be cloned. You're welcome fox. :)
For clarification:
Classic and sustain variants of instruments are counted as SEPARATE INSTRUMENTS for the purposes of this contest.
The current and old smooth synths are considered as THE SAME instrument for the purposes of this contest.

Happy New Year, Online Sequencer! As of today, the site has now reached a critical milestone of its life. Today is the Online Sequencer 10 Year Anniversary. This being the case, the community committee would like to present to you the Online Sequencer 10 Year Contest!
For those who remember the World Update Contest in 2018, and the Space Race Contest in 2021, this contest will be another large-scale contest that will last around 4 months — from January 1 until April 25th.
Like the previous contests, we give you an allotted time to make your pieces: January 2nd - April 1st
However, now we have 2 more special categories that you can submit into in addition to the main contest: Special categories:
Clean electric piano (classic)
(limited to only 1/4th grid)
No effects
No Markers
No velocity
This theme represents the original capabilities of the 2013 sequencer.
OS Anniversary 10 years Art - This category is about making art that can be featured on tee-shirts, mugs, etc.
300 DPI PNG (Note: This is what Teespring says and it does not specify pixels)
Must be SFW
The winning artwork will be used as limited OS merchandise
However, unlike the other previous contests, there will be a change in the way entries are submitted. You may submit directly through the Google Form provided. Once you submit, you cannot edit or withdraw your submission so think before you post.
Notice: The special categories are seperate from the Main Contest and will count towards your total submissions.
Here are the guidelines for this contest:
Upload up to max. 3 sequences and 3 art pieces (3 sequences total, it is ok to submit 3 into the same category, but no more than 3 sequences total)
Do not edit your submission after submitting
Submissions must follow standard forum and sequencing rules
Submissions must be original
Sequences must be more than a minute and less than 4 minutes.
Collabs are allowed, but prizes will be split between the parties involved
The main contest has no extra guidelines or themes. But, the special categories have their own guidelines so please follow if you are going to take part in those special categories.
Judging will work similarly to the World Update Contest in which the committee categorizes your sequences based on a list of specific criteria. After categorizing your sequences into tiers, we will open a few Google Forms for public voting.
Prizes will be determined as we near the judging period for the contest. This post will be updated periodically.
If you have questions, ask either Alex!, Cool172, or anyone on the contest committee.
